The vulval skin can become more sensitive and fragile around the menopause, leading to various symptoms affecting the vulva. For some women, this can impact sex and for some can start to affect day to day life.
With a tailored vulval care regime you can get back to a place of being comfortable and confident.
If required during the examination, a vaginal swab may be taken to looking for imbalances of the normal vaginal flora, as well as bacterial and fungal/yeast infections

Sexually Transmitted Infection screening
If required a STI screen can be taken including a vaginal swab and urine test. This screens for Chlamydia, Gonorrhoea, Mycoplasma and Trichomonas

Ring pessary fitting
A ring pessary can be fitted during the initial pelvic health consultation if required
£50 – includes fitting fee, along with supply PVC ring to support vaginal prolapse
E-string fitting (oestrogen pessary)
An e-string (oestrogen pessary) can be fitted during the initial pelvic health consultation if required
£100 – includes fitting fee, along with prescription of e-string
Cervical smear
Full screening – HPV testing plus cytology (looking at the cervical cells under the microscope)

Consultation options
Ring pessary fitting appointment (PVC ring)
A 20 minute consultation including fitting of a PVC ring pessary to support vaginal prolapse
A 20 minute consultation including the smear taking procedure. The smear will be sent for HPV testing as well as cytology (looking at the cervical cells under the microscope)
Swab and smear tests are processed by the Nationwide Pathology lab. We will provide you with the report and an explanation of your results via email. Swab results can take up to 7 days, and smear tests can take up to 3 weeks.
